♥ An Ode to Deliverance ♥
Oh, my LORD,
You have searched me, and known.
You know my downfall and my uprising,
You understand my distant thoughts.
You compass my path and my prostration,
And minister all my ways.
For no word arises on my tongue,
My LORD God, that you do not wholly designate.
You have beset me behind and before,
And have laid your hand upon me.
Knowledge too wonderful for me;
It is high, nothing I can attain.
Where shall I go from your spirit?
Where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, you are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, you.
I take the wings of the morning,
Dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall your hand lead me,
And your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, surely the darkness will cover me,
Then even the night becomes light about me.
Indeed, the darkness does not hide from you,
And the night shines as the day:
The darkness and the light are the same.
For you have possessed my reins and
You have covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise you,
For I am fearfully wonderfully made:
Marvelous your works;
And my soul knows right well.
My substance was not hid from you
When I was made in secret,
Curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
When it was yet imperfect;
And in your book all were written
And in continuance were fashioned, before all.
How precious also are your thoughts unto me, my God!
How great is the sum of them!
I count them and they are more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with you.
Surely you will slay the wicked, my God!
Depart from me therefore, you bloody men.
For they speak against you wickedly,
Your enemies take in vain.
Do I not hate them,
Oh my LORD, those that hate you?
And am not I grieved with those
That rise up against you?
I hate them with perfect hatred:
I count them my enemies.
Search me, my God, and know my heart:
Try me, and know my thoughts.
See if the wicked way is in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
